1.- What is your name, role, and what does your company do?
Hey! I'm Greg Van Horn, CEO of Launch Potato. We're a startup studio building awesome digital products with an amazing global distributed team
2.- What do you consider the biggest benefits of a remote team?
We work with the best and brightest no matter where they are in the world. That's what makes the Internet so great. Because our distributed team is so effective, we're able to get a lot of things created with a small, close-knit group.
3.- What traits do you look for in candidates for a remote job?
We hire very ambitious and analytical teammates who love to hustle and share our core values - a sustainable, profitable business where the entire team can share success. A sense of humor is a must-have. We take our work seriously but have a lot of fun!
4.- Why is your company working remotely?
As an energetic young company, we believe if you're a responsible adult and all-around good human being, you have the ability to be an effective team member even if you're not physically in our HQ.
Want to work from a beach in Thailand? As long as you're productive and crushing goals, why not?! Life is too short to not do what you want.
5.- What is your hiring process for remote workers?
We take our hiring process extremely seriously. We always request info about your experience and a couple answers to some questions that help us see if we'd be a good match for each other.
Then we'll set up a video call and tell you more about Launch Potato and the role!
6.- What’s the best piece of advice you can share with an applicant?
Don't apply for a job you aren't passionate about.
7.- Do your remote team members meet in person?
Yes, we love to have team members come to our Delray Beach, FL, headquarters. Plus we have 2 annual retreats per year with our global team! We've met team members for the first time in places like Park City, Utah, Barcelona, Austin and Key West. Maybe your country is next on the list!
8.- How do you cultivate company’s culture in a remote work environment?
We try to overcommunicate business strategy, product goals and revenue numbers. We're extremely transparent and work hard to create an atmosphere of trust and fun using Slack, Hangouts, and in-person outings.
9.- What are your favorite tools for remote team communication?
Slack, Google Hangouts, Zoom, Asana, Giphy : D
10.- Why did you decide to start working remotely?
I've been working on the Internet since I was 16 - hustling my ass off as a developer then digital marketer on my mother's computer in New Jersey.
I know I can be effective no matter where I am, whether it's here in South Florida or in a hotel room in Hong Kong. Unless there's bad wifi. I hate bad wifi.
