[Interview] Sandra Lewis, Founder of Worldwide101

Every week, we share the story of an inspiring Remote Worker. Today, we're are super excited to share Sandra's story.

1.- What is your name, role, and what does your company do?

My name is Sandra Lewis and I am the founder of two fully remote companies; Worldwide101, which supports founders, and executives grow their business with a team of premium virtual assistants, and We Are Virtual Assistants, a free platform offering resources, inspiration, trainings, and jobs to aspiring or established virtual assistants.

My days are spent managing a team of 100+ skilled professionals based in Europe, the UK, and North America and while we are all working from our respective home offices, I love the sense of camaraderie and community that everyone fosters.

2.- Why do you work remotely, and how does it feel?

After working in a corporate environment for 22 years in NYC, I wanted to find a way to continue to have a rewarding career without the stress of a commute, office politics and an all-around exhausting experience!

I have been working remotely for the past 7 years, and it has been fantastic!

Funny thing is - I am still working as hard as I used to, but the big difference is that I can choose a work environment that is most conducive to my productivity.

And for me, it’s in the comfort of my home office. I believe working remotely is the way of the future, and that more and more companies will soon adopt this model.

Of course, it only works when hiring best practices are followed, and with a team that cares deeply about retaining the privilege of this lifestyle.

I recently wrote a Medium article on what NOT to do when hiring a remote team, and what I look for in our hires, which might be interesting to your audience.

3.- What software do you use?

I am not going to be super original on this one!

I use Google Apps for pretty much everything (gmail, drive, calendar) and Slack and Skype for communications.

I have found that even while being remote, I haven't needed a whole bunch of Apps for my work.

I am still totally in love with my notepad for taking notes and tracking my “to dos”! I think there is nothing more satisfying than crossing off an action point!

4.- What would be your dream setup?

I live in the countryside surrounded by sheep and cows.

I love it, but sometimes it does feel a little far from the ability to sit in a co-working space, or sip a cup of coffee at a local Starbucks.

So I dream of the ability to tele-transport myself. Wouldn't that be cool?
